VPN Vs Web Proxy Server

You can use VPNs and proxy servers to hide your online activities. However, both these tools have different ways of doing things.

proxy web server is like a gateway between your laptop and the website you're visiting. Your traffic goes through a remote computer that connects you to the host server.

Instead of your original IP address, the web proxy server shows its own. Further, proxies only work on the application level. There are three types of proxy servers, which includes:

  • HTTP Proxies
  • SOCKS Proxies
  • Transparent proxies.

VPN, like a proxy, uses a remote server to reroute your online traffic. It also prevents websites from seeing your original IP address. Further, it works on the operating system level rather than on the app.

Proxy Vs. VPN: Know the Differences

1- Data Encryption

The critical difference between VPN and proxy is that VPN encrypts all your information, let it be your browsing or transferring any data. It means no one can see what you're doing on the internet.

On the other hand, proxy servers don't encrypt traffic.

2- Online Privacy

If you want ultimate privacy, enable a VPN that offers a no-log policy that means the providers won't track and store your online activities. It will prevent sharing your information with any third party that wants to keep an eye on your browsing or sharing.

Contrary, a free proxy can monitor your traffic and sell your information to anyone.

3- Slower Connections

Both VPNs and proxy servers make your browsing slower as the number of users increases. However, free proxy servers tend to be slower than VPNs.

4- Cost

Although you can use a free VPN, experts recommend using paid VPN services. You can have more secure connections, data privacy, and more trusted performances with paid services. On the other hand, proxy servers are free that offer unreliable connections.
